It's been a couple of weeks since the last TT here on Pervy... Well, I'll make things right today ;-)
I've wanted to post something about the similarities between the Dutch and English language for a long time. So here are a few simple words that look surprisingly the same ;-)
- Bread = Brood
- Door = Deur
- Cat = Kat
- Mother = Moeder
- Fish = Vis
- Book = Boek
- House = Huis
- Moon = Maan
- Bath = Bad
- Kiss = Kus
- Hand = Hand
- Bed = Bed
- Ring = Ring
Happy TT to you all!

Interesting list. I wonder how similar the words sound when spoken?
Haha, that bath = bad makes me laugh!!
Happy TT (even though I didn't do one today) :-)
Yes, they are pretty cool! My favorites are #9 and #10 Happy TT
Great list. I'm dutch so I can relate to it pretty well.
Happy TT!!
Nice to see another couple of girls blogging.
Mom Huebert, the words sound pretty much the same, but I think it would be a bit hard to explain the little nuances...
Hehehe, Frigga, that bath = bad sounds very much the same though ;-) , it doesn't sound like the English "bad". But it's funny, yeah :D
Kat, cool huh? ;-)
And ooooh, Miranda, you're Dutch too?! Cool!
Thanks everyone for stopping by, and Happy TT to all ;-)

You can see how English has "borrowed"words from other languages and made them her own. very interesting list. Welcome back to TT!
Thanks, Nicholas! And you're right. The Dutch language itself has many borrowed words also. There are influences from the French, English, and others too.
These things are pretty interesting, especially those origins of a language ;-)
